Students in Year 7, 8 and 9 will have their heads buried in stories this half term as they help to raise money to buy books for hospitals.

The senior school students have started a Readathon Sponsored Read, designed to encourage children to read for pleasure.

So far, students have read everything from comics to classics, with donations piling up to provide new books for ill children in hospital through the Readathon charity.

Sophie Fisher, learning resources coordinator, said: "Readathon is a wonderful initiative which motivates reluctant readers to give reading a go, and keen readers to read more widely.

"Our students have already made a great start to their reading and fundraising, reading anything from established classics to the latest graphic novels.

"The money raised helps Readathon to regularly give brand new books and storyteller visits to children's hospitals across the UK, so it really is a win-win."

To get our bookworms reading as much as possible, the Senior School is holding a reading week this week.

For one week only, students will ditch the homework and replace it with their favourite books to give them even more chance to raise funds for the Readathon.

The event is set to run until Monday 14th November and when all sponsorship comes in, students will also benefit by receiving free books for the library worth 20% of the sponsorship total.
