A giant sunflower, a flower arrangement and even rose bushes with worms were a few of the offerings for Year 9’s annual cake off this morning.

The event, organised by Mrs Wren, sees each Year 9 Form gather to support their teachers in decorating 25 cupcakes, this year in the theme of mothers.

The dining hall was alive with noise as Mr Walker, Miss Chow, Mr Frost, Mr Carberry, Miss Wood, Mrs Archer, Ms Kedie and Ms Jones got creative to try and take the crown.

Some competitors came pre prepared with a wire arrangement to display their cakes, others expertly rolled their icing to perfect their creations and others took on a ‘winging it’ approach!

Mr Jackman, Head Chef at the Senior School, took on the role of judge for the morning and awarded Mr Frost and Mr Carberry with their floral cake arrangement, much to the delight of their form.

Ms Wren started the Year 9 Cake Off when the year group was in Year 7 with a theme of Spring. Last year, creations were based around Canada to say goodbye to former Head of Senior School Ali Wall.
