Dame B's enjoy an energetic visit from author Philip Ardagh
On 27th June Dame B’s welcomed Philip Ardagh, author of the Eddie Dickens trilogies, The Grunts and many more books - both fiction and nonfiction. Philip is notable for many things; his immense height, enormous beard (he has been nominated for this year’s beard wearer of the year award), size 16 feet and his hilarious writing style. Philip began his visit in our wonderful library being interviewed by our fantastic team of Year 6 librarians, who asked him some pretty searching questions. He then gave a superb - and very funny - presentation to Years 3-6 in the theatre.
He explained to us how a pair of pants started his journey as an author, talked about his relationships with the illustrators and some of the inspirations for his characters and books. The children were spellbound and thoroughly enjoyed the presentation and its audience participation. Shouting “Spongebags!” at one another was a highlight! Philip’s humour and love of writing shone through and I’m sure that many of his audience will be inspired to use language even more creatively next time they pick up a pen! An awesome and inspiring visit from a fabulous author!
