Year 5 tour the world-famous Globe theatre

Published on 08/02/19

Year 5 at Dame Bradbury's enjoyed a wonderful trip to Shakespeare's Globe, learning all about the theatre.

On Monday 4 February, Year 5 pupils from Dame Bradbury's headed off to Shakespeare's Globe on London's Southbank. To enhance their understanding of Macbeth, the children were taken on a tour of the world-famous theatre and even had an opportunity to stand on The Bard's stage, performing a few lines from 'The Scottish Play'.  They went backstage, sat in some of the boxes in the auditorium and experienced what it would have been like for a 'groundling ' to stand and watch a play from deep down in front of the stage.

The children also visited the excellent Shakespeare Museum and saw some of the props (including the gory ones) which are used in some of the Royal Shakespeare Company's performances.

All agreed that it had been a fantastic and once in a lifetime experience, and a fitting way of bringing their work on Shakespeare, and Macbeth in particular, to life.  Thanks to the Year 5 Form and English teachers for accompanying the children and to Mrs Matthews for organising the trip.
